Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is Union more expensive than non-Union?

A: No- the hourly rate is higher than a typical non union craft person. However the union member goes through monitored and certified training. Which means that the job will be done right quicker and in the end costs less overall at which point the hourly rate is inconsequential because the union craft person has more technical and safety training. See our SAFETY PAGE for a list of normal training that our Key Millwrights get.

Q: Can a Non OEM like ST Cotter perform a project on a newer gas turbine or steam turbine that has only been in service for a short time and there is limited information on in the industry?

A: Yes- our craft have industry experience on all types of makes and models and that “cross-training” allows them to see different technologies and how each OEM uses it to perform a certain function per there design. It is that “cross-training” that allows our key individuals to source information and services new technologies and to think outside the box when servicing newer machines.

Q: Can a privately owned company handle large turnkey outages for multiple utilities?

A: Yes, as a privately owned company every customer is more important to us then you are to the large, slow, cumbersome OEM and we will react faster. However, we operate on a first come first service basis or as we say “First Purchase order basis”, an only take on projects that we can provide quality craft labor and have the tooling available, instead of taking every project that comes our way.

Q: Can S.T. CTS support our technical needs onsite for emergent repairs?

A: Yes, with a few exceptions like rotor welding, we can handle boresonic reviews, steam path audits, valve chest repairs, vibration analysis and other typical and nontypical items.

Q: Does S.T. CTS have the ability to support our outage with data sheets from the OEM?

A: NO, we have pain staking re-designed our spec sheets to be better and more comprehensive that the OEM sheets, like everything else we try to serve better than the OEM.
